A museum with a great variety of cheeses. All varieties can be tasted and purchased.
Development of cheese production
Cheese owes its widespread distribution in this country to the rapid development of the ship fleet in the Middle Ages. For long voyages, the crews needed food with a long shelf life and many useful properties, so that the sailors would always be full of energy.
Cheese was perfect for this role, where it was kindly invited. Thus began the development of cheese production in the Netherlands, which continues to this day.
Now this product is one of the most favorite among the locals and is sure to please visitors to the Netherlands as well. For an introduction to cheese traditions, we recommend a visit to the Cheese Museum, which combines not only a museum function but also a tasting function and a cheese store.
Exhibit and tasting
The museum is quite modest, but a lot of fun. How about trying on the famous wooden shoes along with elements of the national dress, trying to lift several heads of cheese at once or slicing it with a special giant knife? And, of course, to take a picture in all this madness - that's what the museum is for!
On the second floor you can find no less fun and very delicious thing to do - tasting. With big or small holes, with white or blue mold, with peppers or herbs - here you're sure to find the cheese you like, even if you weren't a big fan of it before you came to the museum.
